2022 Range Rover Breaks Cover: 6 Things You Want To Know

The fifth-gen SUV gets additional tech, a neater design, and plenty of luxurious touches

ZW-2022-Range-Rover-Unveil-1

It’s not often that the flagship Range Rover gets a generation update. In fact, it’s very rare, probably once in seven to eight years. So when Land Rover took the wraps off the fifth-gen SUV today, we indeed expected a major overhaul in technology, features, and the luxury quotient.

Without any further ado, here are the top six facts about the 2022 Range Rover you want to know:

Seating Layouts And Wheelbase Options

The 2022 Range Rover will be offered in two wheelbase options: standard and long, and three seating configurations: 5-, 6-, and 7-seater. If you have deep pockets, you can consider the new SV Signature Suite option (on the long-wheelbase version), which we will talk about now.

Opulent Interior

Let’s start from where we left. Land Rover will offer the SUV as a four-seater if you choose the SV Signature Suite option, which comes with lounge-like rear seats with massage function and 24-way adjustability. Adding to the plush experience are the separate climate control zones, twin 11.4-inch entertainment screens, and an electronically operable table.

The dashboard design is minimal, really, with all controls placed exactly where they need to be. There’s, of course, the 13.1-inch JLR’s Pivi Pro infotainment system here in its largest size ever. You also get a sleek new steering wheel, the design of which is incidentally similar to Audi and Land Rover’s latest digital driver’s display.

Technology On Board

As expected, the flagship SUV boasts an incredible range of features, including Alexa connected car tech, four-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi wireless phone charger, adaptive LED headlamps, and an insanely-specced 1600W 35-speaker Meridian sound system.

The SUV also gets adaptive air suspension, all-wheel steering, and active anti-roll bars. This will ensure a more comfortable ride. The autonomous driving features should also allow for a safer and easier ride.

Powertrains And Chassis

The 2022 Range Rover is based on Land Rover’s MLA platform. The SUV gets the choice of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains (the former comes with standard mild-hybrid tech for torque assist and improved fuel economy). The six-cylinder SUV has an optional plug-in hybrid, getting a 31.8kWh battery pack and a 142PS electric motor. This allows you to drive the Range Rover up to 100kms on pure electricity.

BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 also joins the lineup if you fancy an enthusiastic machine. Also, there’s an all-electric version coming up in 2024.

Exterior Design

The basic styling might seem identical to its predecessor, but it is certainly a lot smoother now with cleaner, distinct lines. Up front, there’s a revised grille insert and new bumpers with a rectangular air intake. Then there’s the flush-fitting door handles and the crisper shoulder lines, lending the side profile a much cleaner look.

At the back, Land Rover has gone through with a near overhaul of the design, equipping the luxury SUV with new sleek vertically stacked connected LED tail lamps. We loved the design overall, so a big thumbs up to the concerned folks.

India Launch And Rivals

The new flagship Range Rover will likely arrive in India sometime next year at an expected price of around Rs 2 crore. The 2022 SUV will lock horns with the Bentley Bentayga, Mercedes-Maybach GLS, 2022 Lexus LX, and Rolls Royce Cullinan.
