One of the most anticipated launches for 2024 is none other than the Mahindra Thar 5-door. The elongated off-roader has been spotted on multiple occasions and each time it has been spotted, we can discern something new. In these latest spy images, though, the Mahindra Thar 5-door, seen with its new design elements, looks close to production ready.
The newest design touch in the Thar 5-door that can be easily seen is the new 10-spoke alloys that look a size larger than the existing Thar 3-door. Shifting focus to the front, you can see the new round LED headlights and DRLs, while the slatted grille is new and has gaping inserts. Earlier spy images also gave a look at its tail lamps, likely to be all-LED units.
Inside, the Thar 5-door will feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system, probably the 8-inch unit from the Scorpio N. It will be available in a fixed hard top body and has a feature that everyone loves: a sunroof. Other expected new features on board include a wireless phone charger, six airbags for better safety, and probably dual-zone climate control.
The rest of the features should be similar to the Thar 3-door, which gets keyless entry, cruise control, power windows, rear parking sensors and electronic stability control.
Underneath the hood, you can expect the Thar 5-door to get the 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine from the smaller model, but probably with a bit more power. It could be offered with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options as well as manual and automatic transmissions.
The Thar 5-door will command a premium over the smaller SUV, which starts from Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, while going up against the Force Gurkha 5-door.
