The Mahindra off-roader in the upcoming 5-door variant will offer new features over the 3-door vehicle

One of the most significant and most-awaited SUV launches of 2024 will be the Mahindra Thar 5-door. It should continue to be as capable as the Thar 3-door and there won't be any compromise on its off-roading capabilities. Moreover, recent spy shots have suggested that it will be offered with a list of premium features which will make the vehicle more upmarket than before. Here’s a list of the features, the Thar 5-door is expected to get over its 3-door counterpart.

Sunroof

A sunroof is still one of the most desired features among the Indian buyer, and many Thar enthusiasts always craved a sunroof in the rugged SUV. Well, Mahindra will introduce a sunroof in the new Thar 5-door, albeit a single-pane sunroof and not a full panoramic unit.

Bigger 10.25 inch touchscreen

Since its 2020 launch, the current Thar has been available with a 7-inch touchscreen  and wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its five-door sibling will now receive a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen from the XUV400 EV and XUV700, along with wireless smartphone connectivity.

The Thar 5-door as per its spy shots, is likely to get a digital driver display (likely a 10.25 inch unit) from the XUV400 EV.  The current car on the other hand comes with the analogue setup with a coloured Multi Information Display (MID) in the centre.

Rear Disc Brakes

Safety, has surely become one of the primary factors that today’s buyer keeps in mind when searching for a new vehicle. The rear disc brakes that will be offered on the Thar 5-door should offer better stopping power than the three-door version, which gets drum brakes for the rear wheels.

⁠Rear centre armrest

The Thar will now feature a rear armrest in the 5-door variant of the Thar as it gets a bench seat, making it more comfortable. In the current Thar, you get two individual seats in the rear and there isn’t a provision for a centre arm rest. 

Six Airbags 

Mahindra could also take this as an opportunity to add six airbags as standard equipment on the upcoming longer-wheelbase Thar, in order to comply with the government's upcoming safety kit requirement. Only dual front airbags are available for the current model. 

Type-C charging ports

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be offered with Type-C USB charging ports. This feature ensures your device is always topped up and keeps up with times, where type-C ports have become the norm.

LED Headlights

The current 3-door variant of the Mahindra Thar features a set of halogen headlights, but the new 5-door variant of the off-roader is set to be launched with an LED setup. This will be a welcome feature in the Thar as we often see Thar buyers opt for aftermarket LED light options.

Dual-zone AC

Mahindra also plans to offer dual-zone climate control to the longer-wheelbase Thar as seen on the Indian carmaker’s other modern SUVs like the ScorpioN and the XUV700. The 5-door variant will also most likely feature rear AC vents which were not present in the 3-door Thar.

⁠360-degree camera

A 360-degree camera may also be included with the 5-door Thar, which would make it easier to maneuver through tight spaces and even come in handy while tackling off-road challenges. Specially the reverse camera offered with parking sensors will make parking the vehicle more convenient.

The Mahindra Thar 5-door with the feature additions and enhancements will surely make the Thar a more desirable vehicle if priced attractively. The update will also make it more upmarket than the current 3-door variant of Mahindra’s popular off-roader. Expect it to cost more than the Thar 3-door, which starts from Rs 11.25 Lakh (ex-showroom). It is a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, while locking horns with the upcoming Force Gurkha.
