The lifestyle SUV off-roader segment is going to become a whole lot more popular in the coming months. Just a few days back, Force Motors teased us with the upcoming 5-door Gurkha. Meanwhile, it is well known that Mahindra is gearing up to unveil the 5-door version of the popular Thar, probably on August 15. With these two cars expected in the market pretty soon, let us take a look at the top 10 features that the Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to get over the Force Gurkha 5-door.  

Cruise Control

The current 3-door version of the Thar already comes equipped with this feature. Mahindra is likely to carry it forward on the larger 5-door variant, making highway drives all the more relaxing and stress free. 

10.25 inch Touchscreen Infotainment

From spy shots, it’s confirmed that the Thar will get the XUV400’s 10.25-inch touchscreen unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Yes, the Gurkha 5-door will also come with a touchscreen infotainment system, but like the smaller 3-door version, it might get an aftermarket 7-inch unit. 

Digital Driver's Display

The new 5-door That will also come with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, which definitely raises the bar when it comes to premiumness. Meanwhile, the Gurkha is likely to continue with its conventional dials with a multi-info display.

Sunroof

One of the most sought-after features in India today is the sunroof. And there’s good news for you on this front as the Thar 5-door, with its fixed hardtop, will pack in a single-pane sunroof. 

360 Degree Camera

Mahindra is also expected to equip the larger Thar with a 360-degree camera system. This will not only help in manoeuvring through tight spots in either off-roading or city traffic, but will also be very useful while you’re parking the SUV.  

Connected Car tech

The upcoming Thar 5-door should also get connected car tech, considering that the XUV400 and XUV700, with the same infotainment system, gets this feature. That means, you can check out the vital stats of the vehicle and even operate some of its features using your smartphone. 

Rear AC vents

The Thar 5-door is longer than the 3-door model. This means a larger cabin space, which in turn will need better cooling, especially during our scorching summers. To this end, Mahindra will offer rear AC vents on the 5-door Thar.

More Powertrain Options

In terms of engine options, Mahindra is likely to continue with the same engines like the 3-door model. This includes the 150PS 2.2-litre diesel and a 130PS 2-litre petrol, probably tuned with more power. The Thar will be offered with both manual and optional automatic transmission as well as rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains.  

The Force Gurkha is expected to get just the 2.6-litre diesel engine with a manual transmission and four-wheel-drive. 

More Variants

To ensure something for everyone, Mahindra might offer the new Thar in multiple variants across the aforementioned powertrain options. This means customers can opt for a variant that is suitable to their needs. Meanwhile, the Gurkha 5-door is likely to come in a fully loaded trim only.

Rear Disc Brakes

Test mules of the new 5-door Thar were spotted with rear disc brakes. That said, the Force Gurkha 5-door test mules featured a front disc and rear drum braking set-up. 

In conclusion, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door is likely to cater to a wider audience range with a larger variant list and multiple powertrain options while the Force Gurkha will stick to its old-school charm which will attract hard-core offroaders. Both the models will be larger alternatives to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
