Skoda India To Hike Prices From Jan 1

Depending on the model and variant, the price hike will fall in the range of 2 to 3 per cent

Skoda Rapid

Yup. It is that time of the year again when we’ll see almost all carmakers in the country announce a price hike from next year. Heading the list is the Czech carmaker Skoda, which has announced that from January 1, 2018, the prices for all its models will increase. Depending on the model and variant, the price hike will fall in the range of 2 to 3 per cent. The company has said that changing market conditions and various economic factors are the generic reasons behind this price revision.

Currently, the Volkswagen-owned company has four models on sale in India - Rapid, Octavia, Superb, and its first-ever seven-seater SUV, the Kodiaq. The Rapid is the most affordable offering from Skoda in India, with its price ranging from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 13.47 lakh. Next in line is the Octavia, which recently got its top-spec variants renamed from Style Plus to L&K. Price-wise, the D-segment sedan ranges from Rs 15.71 lakh to Rs 24.01 lakh. However, the super-fast RS variant is priced at Rs 25.49 lakh.

The Superb has five variants in its portfolio. While the least expensive of the lot is priced at Rs 25.09 lakh, the fully loaded diesel-auto L&K variant will cost you Rs 32 lakh. Topping the Skoda range in India is the Kodiaq, which is available in a single variant only - the 2.0 TDI AT - and is priced at Rs 34.5 lakh.

If we were to calculate the minimum and maximum hike based on what Skoda is claiming, you will end up paying anything between Rs 17,000 and Rs 1.035 lakh. If you are planning to buy a Skoda and if it is one of the expensive ones, make sure you get the paperwork done before the calendar ticks into 2018.
