The changes will most likely be limited to the cosmetics only

  • It was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020 in February 2020.

  • To get a matte grey body shade, tinted headlights and fog lamps, as well as blacked-out alloy wheels.

  • Likely to be based on top-spec variants with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and auto climate control.

  • Should retain the 110PS 1-litre TSI petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options.

  • Expect a price premium of Rs 50,000 over the standard model.

When the BS6-compliant Skoda Rapid was showcased at Auto Expo 2020, back in February, 2020, the carmaker had also silently displayed a distinct matte version of the sedan. Now, the carmaker is set to introduce it to the Rapid, with the Matte Edition going on sale at the end of September, 2021.

As the name suggests, the Rapid Matte Edition is set to get a matte grey body shade, smoke-tinted headlamps and fog lamps, as well as blacked-out alloy wheels. The contrast red inserts on the mirrors and doors and boot lid that were there in the model showcased at Auto Expo 2020 won’t make it for the final model.

Changes to the cabin are likely to be limited to a new upholstery option. It will likely be based on the Rapid’s top-spec variants, so we should expect features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, and keyless entry. Safety features include four airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (AT only), and a rear view camera.

The Rapid Matte Edition will retain the 1-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine from the standard model that delivers 110PS and 175Nm. It will likely also retain the 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options

Not only will the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition be the only sedan in the segment to get a factory-fit matte colour option, but it will also be the second mass market model other than the Kia Seltos to get this option. The Skoda Rapid retails from Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Matte Edition could add a premium of up to Rs 50,000 over the standard model’s top-spec Style.
