All-New Audi Q5 Launching On January 18

It will be available with petrol and diesel engines, both with a cubic capacity of 2.0 litres

Audi Q5

Of late, Audi India has come under scrutiny for opting out of the 2018 Auto Expo. However, it won’t leave its fans saddened for too long. The German auto giant will begin the new year with a bang by launching the all-new Q5 in India on January 18. The new generation of Audi’s midsize SUV will be a welcome addition for those who like Audi’s new design language on the Q7 but can’t afford to buy one.

Yes, the new Q5 looks like a shrunken version of its larger sibling but that is by no means a bad start. Underpinned by Volkswagen’s MLB Evo platform, which it shares with the Q7 and the A4, the new Q5 is nearly 90kg lighter than its predecessor. That should pay dividends in mileage and driving dynamics.

No points for guessing, the very-German cabin of the Q5 is very much like the Q7’s. As you’d expect from a car of this size and price - and the fact that it goes up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and the recently launched Volvo XC60 - the feature list is quite extravagant. It includes an 8.3-inch infotainment display with handwriting recognition, Audi’s MMI interface with built-in navigation, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a 12.3-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ in place of an old-school analogue instrument cluster.

The Audi Q5 will be available with petrol and diesel engines, both with a cubic capacity of 2.0 litres and producing 252PS and 190PS of peak power respectively. Both engines will come mated to a seven-speed S Tronic automatic transmission as standard and will feature all-wheel drive as well.
