The comeback of a four-wheel drive variant should keep off-road enthusiasts happy!
- Next-gen Scorpio likely to be launched by early 2022.
- Should be provided with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.
- Both engines likely to come with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
- The new Scorpio likely to retail from Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
A video of the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio bashing the Sam Sand Dunes (in Rajasthan) was shared by our good friends at Rajasthan Motorsport. This particular test mule should be a four-wheel drive given the terrain it's tackling. However, it must be mentioned that this drivetrain isn’t new to the Scorpio.
Offered in the existing Scorpio for a while, the four-wheel-drive variant was discontinued when the SUV was upgraded to meet the stringent BS6 emission standards.
The next-gen SUV should be provided with a more powerful version of the Thar’s 150PS 2.0-litre petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engines. Both engines will likely be paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Also, a RWD variant will be offered as standard alongside the optional four-wheel drive, possibly with both engines.
While the next-gen SUV has grown a size larger, it can’t be mistaken for a Scorpio as the basic design is similar to the existing model. The dual-beam LED headlamps and U-shaped DRLs are new. Also, earlier spy shots have given us a glimpse of the revised alloy wheel design, rear disc brakes, and that one feature we all love…a sunroof!
