2020 Hyundai i20 Spy Shots Confirm A Cabin Design Similar To The Global Version

The hatchback is expected to debut in India by August 2020

  • The 2020 i20 gets a completely redesigned exterior.
  • The test mule’s cabin looked similar to the global-spec, with Audi-esque vents and 4-spoke steering wheel.
  • It is expected to be powered by a detuned version of the Seltos’ 1.5-litre diesel engine.
  • Rivals include the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.

Facing increasing competition from new entrants such as the Tata Altroz, the Elite i20 is starting to lose its edge. But Hyundai is already on the course to debut the new i20 in India by August 2020. The hatchback was revealed globally and from this new spy video, we can also confirm that the India-bound i20 will feature a similar cabin to the international model, with a 4-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the 2020 Creta.

The test mule spotted was seen with a cabin design that is very similar to the global version. The Audi-esque aircon vents and the 4-spoke steering wheel are some of the highlights here. Another standout bit is the 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that extends to the instrument cluster. Some interesting features include BlueLink connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a Bose sound system, a wireless charger and drive modes. It remains to be seen whether all these features will be offered in India.

Apart from a glimpse of the cabin, the video also reveals some exterior highlights such as the cascading grille and LED headlamps. The diamond-cut alloy wheels look different to the ones on the international spec. Unlike the 17-inch wheels on the global-spec, we expect the Indian car to come shod with 16-inch wheels.

We expect Hyundai India to offer the 2020 i20 with a diesel engine, most probably a detuned version of the Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine. The existing 1.4-litre CRDI motor will not be updated to meet with the BS6 emission norms. The international-spec i20 gets a 1.0-litre T-GDI engine and a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol. It is also safe to expect these powertrain options for India as well.

The 1.0-litre T-GDI engine is available in two states of tune in markets abroad: 100PS and 120PS. The former makes use of a mild-hybrid setup for added fuel economy. Gearbox options include a 5-speed MT(1.2-litre petrol) and a 6-speed MT/7-speed DCT (1.0-litre petrol).

We expect the 2020 Hyundai i20 to debut in India by mid-2020. Expect a fat premium over the current iteration that  is priced from Rs 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Key rivals include the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Honda Jazz.
