2017 Hyundai Verna: This Is It

Bookings are now open for the 5th-gen sedan, launch on August 22, 2017

New Hyundai Verna

Update: Hyundai has launched the new Verna in India. Petrol variants are priced from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.24 lakh. Diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.19 lakh to Rs 12.40 lakh.

Hyundai has unveiled the next Verna for India. The 5th-generation Verna (4th generation in India) can now be booked in Hyundai showrooms across the country. The company will announce prices of the car on August 22, 2017.

So what is new? There is, of course, the all new design. The new Verna has taken inspiration from the larger Hyundai Elantra. It seems to be boxier than before, though. Paint options on offer include Polar White, Fiery Red, Thunder Black, Siena Brown, Flame Orange, Star Dust and Sleek Silver.

Hyundai is blaring its trumpet about the Verna's 'Super Body Structure'. The new high strength steel in the Verna gives it better NVH levels, improves safety and performance while also improving its ride and handling characteristics. The suspension is now in line with modern Hyundai cars; these are nicer to be in, even at higher speeds, while also being fun to drive.

The new Hyundai Verna dumps the 1.4-litre petrol and diesel motors from the previous model, using only the 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder Dual-VTVT petrol and 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged U2 CRDi diesel motor.

The 1.6-litre petrol motor develops 123PS of maximum power and 155Nm of peak torque and can be had with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6-litre diesel motor develops 128PS of maximum power and 260Nm of peak torque and is also available with 6-speed manual/automatic transmissions.

The 2017 Hyundai Verna will be available in 12 variants.

Hyundai has highlighted that one of the stand-out features in the new Verna will be the availability of a sunroof. When launched, the new Verna will take on the current king of the segment, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the other contender for the crown, the Honda City.
