Royal Enfield Gears Up For Electric Future, Focuses On Infrastructure Investment And Prototype Testing

The first of the new all-electric Enfields is expected to debut in 2025
Royal Enfield has been quite clear about its EV ambitions and in the current two-wheeler market, the veteran petrol-powered bikemaker knows where its future lies.
What’s interesting is that the Chennai-based manufacturer is testing early prototypes of its EVs in different parts of the world and will most likely launch an electric bike by 2025.
In a recent interview with BusinessLine, B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, mentioned that the company has been making investments into the EV space for physical infrastructure and testing. Royal Enfield and its parent company, Eicher Motors, have applied for the PLI scheme indicating an investment of Rs 2,000 crore in the EV space over a period of five years.

As we had reported earlier, the bikemaker is in no hurry to launch an EV product in the market and will be taking its own sweet time to field a well-rounded product. Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors, at the time of the Hunter 350’s launch, had also revealed that the Bullet maker will be working on multiple EV platforms. Summing up, we can expect the first electric product coming out of Enfield’s stable, possibly by 2025, to be a price-sensitive electric motorcycle with its capabilities being equivalent to a 250-300cc ICE bike. Whatever it may be, the future for the veteran brand in the EV space seems to be a rather exciting one.
