The future EVs will be produced in the company’s new facility near Chennai

Attention! The arrival of Royal Enfield electric motorcycles is on track. According to an online report, the veteran bikemaker is all set to release the first prototype of its EV this year itself. And expect an electric bike to launch sometime later next year.

Interestingly, Royal Enfield is working on two electric two-wheeler architectures, an in-house one codenamed ‘L1A’ and the other in collaboration with Spanish EV startup called Stark Motorcycle. The EV based on the L1A platform will not be restricted to the Indian market and will be offered in the international markets as well.

The electric two-wheeler based on the L1A platform will launch sometime later next year and will not be an outright performance-oriented one, but rather something that will suit the Royal Enfield flair - premium and somewhat laidback. The second platform in joint collaboration with Stark Motorcycle will be a sight to see, as the Spanish brand excels in off-roading performance electric vehicles.

Adding to that, the first EV from the brand will be developed at their existing Vallam Vadagal plant, which has a dedicated section for the L1A platform. Enfield has also acquired a 60 acre land for a new plant in Cheyyar, near Chennai, which will be ready by 2025. The production of EVs will transition from the Vallam Vadagal plant to the Cheyyar unit once it is ready.
