Is Your Choice Petrol, Diesel Or Electric? Tata Sierra Is Set To Get All 3!

The upcoming SUV will be based on the Sigma platform, which is an updated version of the carmaker’s ALFA Arc architecture

  • The Tata Sierra is happening! Launch in 2025.
  • Will get both EV and ICE powertrain options.
  • Would get one of Tata’s new T-GDI engines, likely paired with a DCT.
  • Sierra’s design has been locked.
  • It will look very close to the concept displayed at this year’s expo.

The Tata Sierra coming to life is probably one of the most exciting news that the ongoing Auto Expo 2023 gave us. In fact, Tata has already said the SUV’s design has been locked, which is based on the more evolved version showcased at the event. And now if you’re wondering which powertrains the upcoming SUV will get, well, we’ve got you covered here.

The Sierra will offer a whole buffet of powertrains, including ICE and all-electric options. So you can expect diesel, Tata’s new T-GDI turbo-petrol engines (either 1.2-litre or 1.5-litre unit) and all-electric powertrains (probably with single and dual motor options). Plus, Tata said the T-GDI engines will likely get a DCT, and it’s safe to expect the Sierra to get that as well.

Tata’s upcoming SUV will be based on the Sigma platform, an evolved version of the carmaker’s ALFA-ARC structure. The SUV will measure around 4.4 metres long, so it will fall under the compact SUV space, comprising models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder

What surely does impress one, having laid eyes upon the SUV, is the fact that the Sierra will try to mimic the looks of the iconic yesteryear model. Yes, it’ll be more conventional in the fact that it gets extra rear doors and glossy black trim elements at the top to mimic the Sierra's original rear fixed glass design. However, it still has purpose and the new Sierra is a genuinely good-looking car.

Tata will take the wraps off the market-ready Sierra in 2025. Yes, it’s still quite a long wait, but we don’t mind waiting for an icon to make a splash just like its predecessor did.
