Tata Motors is taking an extra effort to ensure the upcoming Sierra SUV has all the charming traits its predecessor offered. In fact, the nametag being close to Ratan Tata’s heart, the ex-chairman himself gave personal feedback to the design team. Now, we have learnt that the upcoming SUV will be offered in two seating options to cater to buyers of varying taste.

There will be a standard bench variant (five seater), but the model that will probably get more interest will be the Lounge variant (four seater) with individual captain seats for rear occupants. The latter is one the concept previewed, and in the production model, you can expect the space between the seats to be taken up by an armrest for added comfort. Also, with the Lounge version, you can expect plenty of legroom as the seats would be placed a bit behind than the bench version, freeing up more space to stretch out.

In fact, the Sierra’s design, previewed by the latest concept at Auto Expo 2023, has been locked for production. So most of the design touches of what you see in these images will be carried over to the production model. You can take a closer look at the Sierra in our detailed unveiling story

The upcoming SUV will be based on Tata’s Sigma platform that will spawn other models such as the Curvv. Tata has already confirmed that the Sierra will get an electric engine and probably Tata’s 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol unit. We also hope a diesel engine will be offered as Tata already said it remains bullish about oil burners despite impending stringent emission norms.

The production-ready model of the Sierra is expected to be revealed in 2025. We expect prices to start around the Rs 12-lakh mark (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara and the like.
