About Vespa
Born in Florence, Italy back in 1946, Vespa scooters have been around for over seven and a half decades. Piaggio, the company behind Vespa, originally designed these scooters to provide affordable and practical transportation for the Italian masses after the Second World War. Thanks to starring in some high profile Hollywood movies in the ‘50s, the Vespa scooter shot to global fame.
Although Piaggio had done a tie-up in the mid-1960s with Chakan based Bajaj Auto to sell rebadged Vespas in India, and later in 1990 with the Lohia group to sell them here under the LML Vespa name, these collaborations ended after a few years. It was only in 2012 that Piaggio launched the Vespa brand in India by itself with the LX125. Piaggio also started producing Vespas in India in their own manufacturing facility in Baramati, near Pune, and launched several other models soon after.
Currently, Vespa offers a bunch of scooters in India with two engine options - the ZX in 125cc, the SXL, VXL and Racing Sixties - with both 125cc and 150cc engine and the Elegante, which only comes with the 150cc engine. All the models that Vespa offers in India come with the retro chic design and bright colors that made it such a global icon. Some years ago, Piaggio announced that they would be making an electric Vespa specifically designed for India. But thanks to the multiple lockdowns and market slowdowns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic seems to have derailed those plans for now.
The upcoming Bikes of Vespa that are set to be launched in India in 2024 and 2025 are Vespa Elettrica. These vehicles are expected to get design upgrades, features and updated specifications to keep up with the times and enhance the ownership experience.
I have been riding the Vespa VXL 125 for a few months and it is very easy to handle. This scooter stands out with its elegant design and the smooth curves which encapsulate the classic Italian style. Equipped with a 125cc engine, it mirrors the power output of the SXL model providing sufficient thrust for roaming through traffic.Handling is a high point, courtesy of its well designed front suspension and sturdy rear. The braking with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, instills confidencenspecially in sudden stop scenarios.
After owning the Vespa SXL 125 for several months, I am in love with this because of its retro charm mixed with modern flair. It is powered by a 125cc engine that delivers about 9.92 PS of power and 9.60 Nm of torque which makes it quick enough for city rides. Its vibrant color options and the square headlight design have turned quite a few heads. The ride quality is decent, thanks to the aircraft derived single sidearm front suspension and rear dual effect hydraulic shock absorber.
Riding the Vespa ZX feels like taking a trip but with the heart of modern machinery. The scooter captures the vintage Vespa vibe effectively with its classic design, running on a competent 125cc engine that churns out nearly 10 PS power. The seating is better than some of its siblings and the scooter generally provides a smooth ride in urban settings. The fuel economy is around 45-50 kmpl, making it somewhat feasible for daily commuting though not the best in class. One considerable downside for me was the absence of a disc brake in the standard variant, which affects braking efficiency compared to other models in the same lineup.
The Vespa VXL 125 represents all that is classic, refined, and balanced with its style The extra complications like premium alloy wheels, front disc brakes and retro styling often are very popular. Good to buy this.
Vespas SXL 125 wire up riders with the epitome of it chaining characteristic and also the Italian stylish elegance, making its the ultimate choice among the scooter segment. Customers highly recommend its vibration-less, super raping engine, quick acceleration, and quiet ride quality, which is exactly what you are looking for in an urban vehicle. Efficiency, aesthetics, comfortablness and premier features such as alloy wheels as well as attention to detail and finish make this car outperform. Nevertheless, many people express their wish for an opportunity to improve storage possibilities and also want to add more flexibility to the suspension to reduce troubles on rough roads.
