MINI Will Be Bringing The All-electric Cooper SE To India

• Is powered by a 184PS electric motor that can do a 7.3-second 0-100kmph sprint and top out at 150kmph.

• A 32.6kWH battery pack helps the electric hatchback and can do a WTLP-claimed 233km on a single charge.

• Supports up to 50kW fast charging that gives a 0-80 percent charge in 35 minutes.

• Aside from different 17-inch alloy wheels and optional yellow inserts, the Cooper SE looks identical to the petrol-powered Cooper S it is based on.

• Cabin highlights include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, digital driver’s display and dual-zone auto climate control.

• Prices could start from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

It's been two years since it broke cover, but better late than never, as MINI has confirmed that it will be bringing its first all-electric vehicle, the Cooper SE hatchback, to India. While the carmaker hasn’t given a launch timeline yet, we think it’ll happen right next month.

While it is based on the internal combustion-engined three-door Cooper S, the biggest differentiator is of course under the hood. The Cooper SE is powered by an electric motor that’s juiced up by a 32.6kWh battery pack, delivering 184PS power and 270Nm torque. It can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 150kmph. It also has three drive modes on offer: Green, Green+ and Sport. 

What’s an EV without talking about its range? The MINI Cooper SE is capable of a WLTP-claimed 233km on a single charge. It has three charging options, starting with a 2kW home charger giving two percent charge per hour. Hook up a 7.4kW public charger and it gives up to 20 percent juice per hour. A 50kW fast charger can give the electric hatchback up to 80 percent of charge in just 35 minutes.

Powertrains aside, the Cooper SE looks pretty much identical to the petrol-powered Cooper S in every nook and cranny which includes the circular LED headlights, the mustache-like front grille surround, as well as the Union Jack tail lights. That being said, the Cooper SE gets a unique set of wheels, and has yellow elements (optional) on the ORVMs and wheels.

The cabin looks largely similar to the Cooper S, with feature highlights being an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, connected car tech, Apple CarPlay, and ambient lighting. 

Expect the MINI Cooper SE to be launched at prices starting from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). As things stand, it doesn’t really have a true rival in India, which should make it a niche EV offering.
