Mercedes-AMG is all set to take the wraps off the GT 73e four-door coupe, its first plug-in hybrid performance car, on September 1. So let’s get cracking at what to expect from the most powerful version of this four-door coupe.

Based on the same genes as the GT 63, the GT 73e pairs the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor. The headline numbers are yet to be revealed, but Mercedes claims the 4-litre V8 hybrid is capable of belting out up to 815PS and over 1000Nm. Hence, it should be safe to infer that its performance could dwarf that of the GT 63, which already does the 0-100kmph in just 3.2 seconds.

As with all hybrids, the AMG GT 73e can be driven either in pure EV mode, pure ICE mode, or a combination of both. Further details, including the way it puts the power down effectively on the road, will be divulged during the unveiling. So stay tuned to Zigwheels for our detailed report on that.

When it comes to design, the GT 73e will be based on the updated model that debuted recently. Teasers hint that the GT 73e will get its own set of sporty bumpers and alloy wheels to distinguish it from its six-cylinder counterparts. The interior, though, should remain largely unchanged. The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 73e will take on the likes of the Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid. Moreover, Mercedes will have an action-packed September, as it plans to unveil a handful of electric models, including an all-electric AMG, at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect at the upcoming IAA 2021.
