  • It’s 15PS and 10Nm more powerful than its manual counterpart.
  • Sonet diesel automatic will be offered in the sportier GT Line and the Tech Line trim.
  • Kia Sonet expected to reach showrooms in September 2020.

The Kia Sonet is the only sub-4 metre SUV to offer a torque converter automatic with a diesel engine. This is good news as its rivals utilise a simpler AMT unit. Now, we’ve got our hands on a leaked brochure and the surprise here is that the Sonet diesel automatic will be more powerful than its manual counterpart.

Yes, you read that right. The Sonet diesel automatic, which comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, will utilise the more powerful 115PS/250Nm spec from the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. In comparison, the manual variants develop 100PS and 240Nm, a full 15PS and 10Nm less than its automatic sibling. Will the Sonet diesel manual’s power deficiency be felt on the road when compared to its automatic counterpart? That’s something we’ll answer once we get behind the wheel of both the variants.

Meanwhile, you’ll be happy to know that the Sonet diesel automatic will be offered in both the GT Line and the Tech Line trims. Here’s how they differ in terms of looks and features. You can read about the Sonet’s detailed variant-wise feature list right here

The Kia Sonet should reach showrooms in September with an expected starting price tag of Rs 7 lakh. Apart from the Venue, the Sonet will also lock horns with the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser
