The Sonet has been updated to meet RDE norms and the diesel-manual powertrain has been replaced with the diesel-iMT

  • Kia Sonet’s prices hiked by up to Rs 50,000.

  • The 1.5-litre diesel powertrain’s manual has been replaced by an iMT.

  • 100PS, 1.5-litre diesel has been discontinued, now offered with 116PS as standard.

  • No changes to the petrol and turbo-petrol powertrains, only updated to meet new emission norms.

  • New retail price ranges between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 13.89 lakh.

With the upcoming RDE norms set to bring more stern mandates, Kia has updated the Sonet’s powertrains to make them compliant with them. In doing so, the marque has revised the powertrain options available with the sub-four-metre SUV and has also hiked its prices at the same time. Let’s see the new options:

*The old prices under the 1.5-litre Diesel iMT section in the above table are actually for the outgoing manual variants. iMT is a new addition for the diesel powertrain of the Sonet.

The maximum price hike for the Sonet is up to Rs 50,000, for all the diesel trims. The 1-litre Turbo-petrol iMT and most of the naturally aspirated petrol variants have been given a uniform price bump of Rs 25,000, while the base-spec petrol-manual trim has received the minimum hike of Rs 10,000.

Powertrain changes

The Sonet continues to be offered with three powertrain options: 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, a 120PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The oil burner was previously available in two states of tune: 100PS and 115PS. Now, the diesel engine is offered as standard with a single power output: 116 PS (+1PS more), as is the case with the Hyundai Venue, and while there was a six-speed manual and six-speed AT option on offer previously, the former has been chucked and replaced by a six-speed iMT across the range for the diesel and turbo-petrol engines.

The six-speed iMT and the seven-speed DCT remain for the 1-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.2-litre petrol unit continues with its five-speed MT. All these powertrains have been updated to pass the upcoming BS VI phase-II emission norms and can run on E20 fuel (petrol with 20 per cent ethanol blend).

Features

As for features, the Sonet is already well specced with creature comforts like 10.25-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, LED sound mood lighting, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, cruise control, sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a coloured multi-info display. Its safety kit comprises up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
