To come with enhanced cosmetics and cabin revisions over the GTX+ trim

  • Likely to be based on the top of the range GTX+ trim.
  • Sports a segment-first Matte Graphite exterior shade.

  • Gets redesigned alloy wheels with silver brake calipers.

  • Powertrains could include a 1-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel options

  • Expected to be launched in September.

First teased just a few days ago, the Kia Sonet X Line is nearing its imminent launch and we’ve got wind of what’s new on the sportier-looking iteration of the sub-compact SUV.

The X Line will likely build upon the top-spec GTX+ trim, sporting a few cosmetic changes inside-out. It will feature a ‘Tiger Nose’ grille finished in gloss black, a segment-first Matte Graphite exterior hue, ‘X Line’ badges, a dark chrome fog lamp cover, and black finish on the muffler, ORVMs, and beefed up front and rear skid plates with metal accents. Further aggregating the sporty look of the compact SUV is the metal garnish on the side doors and the dual-tone alloy wheels that house silver brake calipers, helping the car stand out from the standard version.

Revisions to the cabin are still under wraps, but the rejig is likely to include new upholstery in line with the Seltos X Line, which features blue seats with a honeycomb pattern. The features on board the Sonet X Line are expected to be on par with the existing features list of the GTX+ trim.

While there is no dope on its powertrain options, we expect it to be powered by the same engines offered with the GTX+ trim: a 1-litre turbo-petrol unit  (120PS/172Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel one rated up to 115PS and 250Nm. Transmission options will include a six-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or a seven-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic) with the turbo-petrol, while a six-speed manual and an optional six-speed automatic will be available with the diesel unit.

Going by the prices of the Seltos X Line, we expect Kia to retail the Sonet X Line at a premium of around Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 over the GTX+ trim; the price for which ranges between Rs 12.59 lakh and Rs 13.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

We expect the Sonet X Line to be launched around the same time as the Venue N Line. While the two will rival each other, their standard iterations rival other sub-4m SUVs like the Maruti Brezza, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, and Mahindra XUV300.
