Variant rejig makes the base variant Rs 90,000 more expensive than its BS4 predecessor
- Era, Sportz+ CVT and the Asta (O) CVT have been discontinued.
- Magna is the new base variant.
- BS6 base variant is Rs 90,000 more expensive than BS4 counterpart.
- Its 1.2-litre petrol mill is now only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Back in January 2020 Hyundai had hiked prices for the Elite i20 hatchback by Rs 7,000 for all its variants, but these were simply 2020 prices and not a BS6 upgrade. The carmaker has now revealed that the BS6-compliant iteration for the hatchback will be priced from Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom India) onwards. Note, though, that only the petrol variants have received this upgrade. This follows shortly after Hyundai revealed prices for the Grand i10 Nios Turbo.
Aside from this, the carmaker has also rejigged its variant lineup. Here’s a detailed look at the new prices:

With this BS6 update, prices have been hiked by Rs 15,000 for all variants. If you add on the January prices, the i20 is now Rs 22,000 dearer. You’ll notice that the carmaker has dropped the Era, Sportz+ CVT and the Asta (O) CVT variant from the lineup. Thus, with the Magna now being the new base variant, the BS6 i20’s premium is Rs 90,000 over its BS4 counterpart.
While the technical details haven’t been revealed yet, the BS6 Elite i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. It expected to produce the same 83PS and 113Nm as its BS4 predecessor. With the omission of the 1.4-litre diesel engine and CVT variants, it is only available with a 5-speed manual.
Since the Magna variant of the Elite i20 is now the entry level variant, it will naturally feature more equipment than the previous entry level variant, the Era. Aside from this, Hyundai will be unveiling the next-gen i20 at the upcoming 2020 Geneva Motor Show in March. Expect it to make it to Indian shores later this year. It will continue to rival the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza as well as the Honda Jazz.
