5 Facts About Husqvarna’s Entry-level Svartpilen 125

Swedish motorcycle manufacturer Husqvarna recently unveiled its entry-level offering, the Svartpilen 125. This tiny little package punches way above its segment with premium underpinnings, a rev-happy motor and a truck-load of features. To paint you a better picture, we’ve compiled five important points that will get you up to speed with this firecracker of a motorcycle.

A Familiar Package:

One can associate with the Svartpilen 125 because underneath those beautifully designed body panels lies a KTM 125 Duke. So expect the Svartpilen 125 to be just as exciting if you’re a new rider. The difference lies in the ergonomics and the way the bike has been styled. The handlebars are taller so you sit fairly upright on a slim yet comfortable seat and a pint-sized 9.5 fuel tank in between your legs.

Notable features include LED lights all around, a fully digital instrument console and a tank rack which comes as standard.

What’s Different?

Unlike the huskies sold in India, the international-spec Svartpilen 125 features spoked wheels with dual-purpose Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres and a side-mounted exhaust.

KTM Genes

At the heart lies the same Euro 5, BS6-compliant 125cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC motor seen on the 125 Duke. It generates 15PS and 12Nm, which is perfect for new or novice riders learning the ropes. A 6-speed transmission helps put the power down.

Premium Hardware

The Svartpilen 125 isn't your average commuter. It's pegged as a premium offering with more sophisticated components like a trellis frame, an upside-down fork, a monoshock from WP, and disc brakes at both ends. A single-channel ABS system comes as part of the standard equipment. It's rather light too, weighing in at just 146kg dry.

Likely To Come To India?

Going by KTM’s success in the entry-level 125cc segment, it’s highly likely that Husqvarna will manufacture the Svartpilen 125 here in India. Thanks to localisation, we reckon the bike would be priced at around Rs 1.35 lakh ex-showroom (introductory). Once launched, it will compete against bikes like the KTM 125 Duke and the Yamaha MT-15.
