Say hello to the brand spanking new Svartpilen 125

A few days back, we brought you news about a new bike being teased by Husqvarna, and today, the veil of mystery has been lifted. With the unveiling of the new Svartpilen 125, Husqvarna has introduced its smallest motorcycle yet, and like most of the rest of its lineup, the little 125 borrows heavily from its KTM cousin.

Based on the 125 Duke, the Svartpilen gets the same 125cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 14.96PS, housed in an identical trellis frame. Strangely enough, the bike features a side-slung exhaust unit, unlike the 125 Duke’s underbelly design.

It may be just a 125 but Husqvarna has still given it premium underpinnings. It gets a 43mm upside-down fork, preload-adjustable monoshock attached to an alloy swingarm, and a 320mm front disc bitten by a 4-piston ByBre caliper. We’re happy to report that unlike the Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 sold in India, the 125 rolls on gorgeous wire-spoke wheels, wrapped in on/off-road Pirelli Scorpion STR rubber. While the tyres themselves are tubeless, it’s not yet clear whether Husqvarna has had to use a tube inside because of the wire-spoke rim.

Aesthetically, the 125 looks pretty identical to the Svartpilen 250 that we get in India (wheels aside). The neo-retro design language has been executed rather well, highlighted by the sculpted fuel tank and round LED headlight. Round digital LCD instrumentation is also carried over from the 250s, and like the quarter-litre bikes, there’s a pretty good chance the Svartpilen 125 will eventually end up on the Indian market. Expect a price tag of around Rs 1.35 lakh once it arrives.
