  • The 2020 Mahindra Thar’s DRLs are mounted in a similar fashion as the Jeep Wrangler.
  • It features a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and steering-mounted audio controls.
  • Could be offered with two BS6 engine options: 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel.
  • Expected to debut by June 2020.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing in the country ahead of its expected June 2020 debut. The test mule seen in the latest spy shots seems to be a production-spec model with plenty of premium features. In fact, it also looks like a mini-Wrangler when viewed from certain angles.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with LED DRLs mounted on the flared wheel arches a la the Jeep Wrangler. It also comes with gun-metal shade alloy wheels, which could be 17-inch units. The design of the Thar, though familiar, looks more butch thanks to its bigger size. It comes with traditional design elements like a 7-slat grille, round headlamps, and an upright silhouette. Meanwhile, changes at the rear are limited to the new LED tail lamps.

Inside, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with a new dashboard design, which looks far more modern than the one on its predecessor. It also gets an updated instrument console and a sleeker 3-spoke steering wheel.

The 2020 Thar is packed to the gills with features. Highlights include a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, climate control, a multi-info display, front power windows, as well as remote locking. Expected safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar could be offered with two BS6 engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. The petrol motor is the mStallion engine that recently made its debut at Auto Expo 2020. It develops 190PS/380Nm and could be paired with an automatic transmission. The diesel motor, on the other hand, is expected to develop 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a low-range transfer case for some serious off-roading.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is expected to be priced above the erstwhile Thar 700 (Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the updated Force Gurkha and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
