Royal Enfield’s Electric Motorcycle Arriving Sooner Than Planned?

Strategic investments have helped speed up development

We already know that Royal Enfield is working on an electric motorcycle which was expected to debut sometime in 2025. However, ex-Ola Electric CTO Umesh Krishnappa has joined the company, and there is a dedicated EV team set up in India and the UK. Does this mean that we can expect the e-motorcycle sooner than promised? Maybe in 2024?

According to a report, the work on a dedicated EV platform, codenamed ‘L,’ has already begun. This platform will pave the way for multiple designs helping the bikemaker cater to different types of audiences.

An investment of north of USD 100-150 million is likely by Royal Enfield in the EV space, and it expects a business potential of 1.2 to 1.8 lakh units per annum from EVs.

Royal Enfield is working on multiple parallel projects and will be taking the help of Stark Future, a Spanish electric dirt-bike maker, for designs and to share EV technology with. Eicher Motors, Enfield’s parent company, had acquired a small stake in the Spanish brand.

Summing up, we expect to see an electric bike from Royal Enfield sometime late in 2024. While the shape of the bike is yet to be determined, we figure the first one will be true to its heritage roots.
