The EV6 kickstarts Kia India’s electric innings and the CBU model will be limited to 100 cars initially
We’ve a brand new EV launching tomorrow and it’s none other than the Kia EV6, the launch of which will mark the debut of Kia India’s EV journey. If you had your eyes on one, the Korean carmaker is accepting unofficial bookings, but there will be a cancellation charge of Rs 50,000 if you change your mind.
So without further ado, here are top 5 things you need to know about the upcoming Kia EV6:
Exterior Design
With sharp and clean lines, the EV6, following Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language, is a suave looking electric car. In fact, the low slung nature and its overall design helps it to achieve a low drag coefficient (Cd) value of 0.28. This author’s favorite bit is the rear end, specifically the jewel-like elements in the tail lamps.
Interior Design
If you thought the EV6’s exterior design is posh, wait till you step inside. The cabin greets you with twin Mercedes-like screens (for the digital driver display and touchscreen infotainment system), the ambient lighting looks wicked, especially at night, and the hard keys can be used either for the climate control or infotainment system. Neat!
Features Onboard
It’s safe to say that the EV6 will be one of the most feature-loaded Kias to go on sale in India. Highlights include wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car tech, powered front seats with heating and ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, a head-up display with augmented reality, and a 360-degree camera.
Safety kits include eight airbags, Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), electronic stability control, traction control, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. All of these and a tough body have helped the EV6 secure the full five stars in the stringent Euro NCAP safety tests. Do note that the Indian model will not be identical to the version of the car sold in Europe.
Powertrains
The EV6 will be offered in India with a 77.4kWh battery pack, teamed with either a 229PS motor (rear-wheel drive variant) or dual motors making 325PS combined (all-wheel drive variant). It will have a WLTP-claimed range of up to 528km and will support multiple charging options, including fast charging. That said, another highlight of the EV that needs mentioning is its ability to power certain appliances in the case of domestic power outage.
