The carmaker is about to begin taking orders again for its EV that’s brought in as a completely built-up unit (CBU)

  • Kia EV6 bookings to reopen on April 15, 2023.

  • The carmaker is expanding EV dealerships from 12 (at launch) to 60 across 44 cities.

  • 432 units of Kia EV6 were delivered in 2022, making it India’s top-selling premium EV.

  • EV6 retails at Rs 60.95 lakh, AWD variant costs Rs 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Kia EV6 is one of the coolest-looking, longest-range EVs you can buy in India right now, and if you want one of your own, it’s time to get the cheque book ready. The carmaker has announced it’ll open the order books for the 2023 batch of the EV6 on April 15. With global supply chain issues still ongoing, only a few hundred units are expected to be allocated for India in the next batch, so potential buyers will have to place their orders quickly.

With local assembly out of the question for now, the fully imported Kia EV6 costs as much as a premium European ICE sedan. It is sold in a single trim level, fully loaded GT Line, that’s available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants.

In addition to bringing in more units of the EV6 to cater to the higher-than-expected demand, the carmaker is also expanding the dealer network for the EV. At the time of its launch, the EV6 was only sold from 12 dealerships in some major cities. Now, the carmaker will sell it from 60 dealerships present across 44 cities in India. Kia is also expanding the availability of its 150kWh public chargers to all its outlets.

“As a symbol of our commitment to electrification and sustainability, the EV6 has created history by becoming one of the best-selling products in its first year. We are proud to be leading the way towards a more sustainable future and will continue to grow the segment to grow our business.” – Tae-Jin Park, MD & CEO, Kia India.

The Kia EV6 may be as costly as a Mercedes C-Class, but it’s as well-equipped, too. It boasts of features such as a large electric sunroof, powered tailgate, dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and driver’s instrumentation, a large heads-up display (HUD) and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system. In fact, the EV6 has useability beyond any ICE on sale since it can power external appliances and even charge other EVs with vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology.

The EV6 also gets a full suite of driver assistance systems (ADAS) with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance and blind-spot collision avoidance assist.

A 77.4kWh battery pack is standard, capable of delivering up to 708km of ARAI-tested range (around 500km in real-world conditions). The EV6 has ultra-fast charging capabilities at the leading edge of the entire EV market, not just its own segment.

Its RWD variant packs a 229PS e-motor mounted at the rear, while the AWD has a dual motor drivetrain producing 325PS combined. The EV6 delivers the performance you expect from a premium EV with a nought to 100kmph time of 5.2 seconds.

The EV6 rivals the Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV and BMW i4 sedan apart from its own platform cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV.
