CONFIRMED: The Hotter Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Is Breaking Cover In 2023

Will be the first all-electric Hyundai to get the hardcore ‘N’ branded treatment

All the limelight for Hyundai on ‘N’ Day (July 15) was on the N22e and N Vision 74, two racy concepts that make their performance in unique ways and showcase Hyundai N’s electric roadmap. But the carmaker has silently dropped a third bombshell, confirming the Ioniq 5 EV getting the performance-focused ‘N’ treatment that will break cover in 2023. It’ll be the first all-electric ‘N-branded’ Hyundai model.

Considering it's an ‘N’ model let's first start with the performance trickery under the hood. While Hyundai hasn’t revealed any specs yet, the Ioniq 6-based RN22e concept gives some clues as to what to expect. The concept has a dual-motor AWD setup, making  585PS and 740Nm, and is juiced by a 77.4kWh battery pack. For reference, the standard IONIQ 5’s top-spec powertrain setup is a 306PS/605Nm dual-motor AWD setup, coupled with a 72.6kWh battery pack.

Other than powertrain beef ups, the Ioniq 5 N could have torque vectoring, optimal power distribution, use 3D printed parts to save weight, and come with better brakes to gain performance. Of course, all these gains could come at the cost of range, as the standard model offers a WLTP-claimed 470-480km on a single charge.

Being a performance EV, it has to look the part. Fortunately, earlier spy shots of the performance EV seem to tick off those boxes. Sure, the overall silhouette looks largely similar to the standard model, we noticed a lower ride height, as well as sporty blacked-out alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tyres.

What does this mean for India? Well nothing at the moment since we’re yet to get the standard model here. But we won’t have to wait too long for that as the Ioniq 5 is slated to arrive in the second half of 2022.
