Just a few days after we reported that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 surpassed the 1,000-unit sales milestone, the Korean marque delivered the 1,100th unit of the milestone vehicle to none other than Shah Rukh Khan!

This is to commemorate Shah Rukh Khan’s association with Hyundai, as its brand ambassador for 25 years now. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first electric vehicle in Shah Rukh Khan’s garage, which includes luxury cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Rolls Royce Cullinan.

Commenting on the occasion, Shah Rukh Khan, said, “I am honoured to receive the all-electric SUV Hyundai Ioniq 5. This is my first EV and I am glad it is a Hyundai. Year 2023 has been truly remarkable for Hyundai as well as for me. The love we have mutually received from the people of India is our driving force in the industry.”

Khan’s Ioniq 5 is finished in Gravity Gold Matte. The large electric hatch is offered in just a single variant in India, packed with gizmos such as dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic glass roof, powered front and rear seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a Bose sound system, six airbags and, most importantly, ADAS.

The India-spec Ioniq 5 gets a 217 PS e-motor driving the rear wheels. It has a 72.6 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 631 km. Put your foot down and the electric hatch accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 7.6 seconds. For our impressions on the Hyundai Ioniq 5, head to our first drive review.

Being locally assembled the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Its direct rival is the Kia EV6 RWD, a fully imported model, that sets you back by Rs 60.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides the EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a premium alternative to the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV.
