EXCLUSIVE: Yamaha India’s Electric Roadmap Revealed

The Japanese marque is in the midst of an extensive reliability test for its India-bound e-scoot

Wondering why Yamaha hasn’t jumped onto the Indian electric two-wheeler bandwagon yet? Well, in an exclusive interview with Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha India, it was revealed that the company is focusing its energy on extensive durability tests of an electric scooter platform for India.

To be precise, the durability tests are mainly intended to fine-tune the heat management system of the marque’s upcoming EVs, after considering factors like road conditions, customer usage and high temperatures in summer.

Chihana reveals that the company first intends on importing its Neo’s electric scooter into India, after reworking the motor and battery specifications to suit Indian conditions. He even went on to mention that in order to make the Neo’s accessible, Yamaha would make use of Indian suppliers. You can read more about what this e-scoot packs here.

While this is the start, Yamaha will eventually build an electric platform from the ground up. Hopefully, that e-scooter will compete against the Ola S1, TVS iQube and Ather 450X.

Nevertheless, head here to get to know the launch timeline of Yamaha’s first electric scooter for India.
