Citroen’s first electric car for India, the eC3, is expected to be launched in the coming days. The C3 hatchback-based EV will be offered in Live and Feel variants in India, and now, an RTO document confirms the electric version will be offered for fleet purposes as well.
With multiple electric fleet companies cropping up in India and multiple government bodies switching to EVs, it’s only natural for Citroen to offer its budget EV for fleet buyers. Apart from the Citroen EV, the Tigor EV (called Xpres-T for fleet), Mahindra e-Verito and Tata Nexon EV are also available for fleet purposes in India.
Powertrain specs
The eC3 is powered by a 29.2kWh battery pack claimed to deliver up to 320km of range. It’ll have fast-charging capability, taking 57 minutes to charge to 80 per cent.
Propulsion comes from an e-motor with up to 57PS and 143Nm, good enough for nought to 100kmph in around 17 seconds in our tests. Despite its heavy 1,700kg weight, the eC3 can get to a top speed of 107kmph with the power on tap, while the fleet version will be limited to 80kmph as per government regulation.
A good thing here is that the powertrain for fleet purposes remain untinkered with, unlike the X-Pres T, which gets dialled down battery and power unit compared to the Tigor EV.
The budget-oriented eC3 EV gets a limited set of features, including a 10-inch touchscreen, a tiny digital driver’s display, manual AC, connected car tech and steel wheels with wheel covers. The new eC3 is a rival for the Tata Tiago EV and upcoming MG Air EV, while being an alternative to the Tata Tigor EV. It’s expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
