After making its electric MPV available for private car buyers, China-based EV giant BYD is now all set to launch its next EV, the Atto 3, in India. The compact-sized electric SUV is expected to join the BYD lineup alongside the E6 electric MPV sometime in October.
The BYD Atto 3 will be slightly larger than its immediate all-electric rivals, the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona. Its length of 4.45 metres is almost as long as the Hyundai Alcazar (4.5 metres), although the BYD SUV will likely be offered only in a five-seater layout.
Available in Standard Range and Extended Range variants overseas, the Atto 3 offers 345km to 420km from its Blade battery pack. Its novel LFP cell-based battery packs offer greater resistance to fires from puncturing than conventional battery designs. They are lightweight, too – there is only a 70kg difference in the weights of the standard and extended range variants.
Both variants are powered by a 200PS front-wheel drive e-motor that offers a claimed 0-100kmph time of just 7.3 seconds.
The Atto 3 will get features such as a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, up to seven airbags and advanced driver assistance and active safety features such as forward collision prevention and adaptive cruise control.
