Yamaha EU has started a new programme where influential ambassadors get to customise the small XSR125
After the highly successful Yamaha Yard Built programme, the Japanese bikemaker has launched a new campaign called ‘Free Spirits’. It will be limited to Yamaha dealers of Europe and instead of approaching custom houses, the Free Spirits campaign will involve influential ambassadors from different walks of life to personalise the small XSR125 to their liking.

For the first Free Spirits build, Yamaha got Greece’s Nikolas Plytas, a Mediterranean water-ski champion and one of the top 5 athletes of the Water-ski World Games, to create his version of the XSR125. And his inspiration was evidently going to be a beach surfer.
The humble XSR125 got a fender lift and larger knobby tyres for better traction on sand. He’s also got a detachable winch fitted to the bike so that Nikolas can utilise it for wakeboarding. Special provisions for his surfboard and wakeboards have been created for him to carry them on the bike. Accessories from the Genuine Yamaha catalogue like LED turn indicators, a headlight protector and tail tidy, were also incorporated on the bike.
Lastly, Nikolas was quite fond of the Yamaha XT500 Dakar bike. Hence, he got a similar tank shade and livery painted on his XSR125 as well.
Judging by this programme, we hope that Yamaha India also takes some inspiration and introduces it in India. While we don’t quite have the XSR here, its Indian cousin, the FZ-X, will have to do.
