Renault Kwid details including engine specifications emerge

New details for the upcoming Renault Kwid including engine specification have emerged. The Kwid will be marketed as a mini Renault Duster and will be launched in India in September.

The new Renault Kwid is a highly anticipated car for the Indian market. Apart from the fact that it will be priced extremely low and in league with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R while offering a more modern and urbane design, the Renault Kwid will also offer a high level of equipment in the higher speced versions unlike other budget cars like the Datsun Go.

The Renault Kwid will be marketed in India as a baby Renault Duster of sorts with its aggressive styling and chunky looks. The Renault Kwid will also offer more boot space and a lot more interior space than other cars priced in the same category which will in turn mean a more practical approach to entry level motoring for India.

The Renault Kwid will come with a brand new 800cc, 3-cylinder engine with a DOHC setup that seems to be quite modern. The new engine has been designed specifically for the CMF-A platform and will feature 4-valves per cylinder which will make it quite powerful and refined. The new Renault Kwid will also be available with both a manual and eventually an automatic gearbox in AMT guise.

The Renault Kwid will be launched in India in September and will be priced between Rs 3-4 lakhs to go up against the likes of entry-level offerings from both Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Its main competition will be cars like the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Wagon R along with the Hyundai Eon and Hyundai i10. The Renault Kwid will also go up against the Datsun Go. Although the Datsun Go hasn’t really done as well as we all expected, we think the Renault Kwid certainly has the potential to do a lot better.
