The new Gurkha debuted at the Auto Expo 2020 and will rival the Mahindra Thar
- Force Gurkha likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
- To come with manual-locking front and rear differentials, a touchscreen infotainment, and front power windows.
- Will utilise a 90PS 2.6-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual.
Force Motors has revealed in a tweet that the new Gurkha is expected to launch in the next quarter. This means you can expect the SUV to reach showrooms anytime between July and September, 2021. A potential Mahindra Thar rival, the off-roader debuted at last year’s Auto Expo.
On the outside, the slatted grille and round headlamps hark back to the previous-gen Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. The boxy, upright silhouette and raised ride height lend the SUV a tough, butch demeanour. At the rear, the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and vertical tail lamps complete the exterior styling.
Inside the cabin, the dashboard with the aftermarket infotainment system seems a tad unsophisticated and basic. Other likely features include a manual air-con, front power windows, and a multi-info display. Passenger safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and a rear view camera.
Facts To Know: The Gurkha one-ups the Thar by offering jump seats in the boot, making it a six-seater SUV.
The Gurkha will be provided with a 90PS/260Nm 2.6-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual. The output figures might not be a match for the Thar’s 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine. But the Gurkha has better off-road hardware, including manual-locking front and rear differential, a feature that is missing in the Mahindra. It also comes with a low-range gearbox to tackle rough terrain.
We expect the Gurkha to be priced around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
