The base-spec diesel 3 GT is back!

BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Sport Launched

BMW has launched the 320d Gran Turismo Sport in India at Rs 46.6 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Before you get excited, this is just the 320d Gran Turismo Sport Line (which was available when the 3 GT was first launched back in 2016) without the ‘Line’ in its name and a new price tag - it slots in below the 320d Luxury Line variant.

With the (re)addition of the Sport variant, the 3 Series GT range in India now gets three variants which are priced (all prices ex-showroom pan-India) as below:

‘New’ 320d Gran Turismo Sport - Rs 46.6 lakh
320d Gran Turismo Luxury Line - Rs 49.2 lakh
330i Gran Turismo M Sport - Rs 51.2 lakh

The Rs 3.4 lakh price difference is because the 320d GT Sport misses out on chrome accessories on the outside, adaptive all-LED headlamps, 10.5-inch all-digital instrument cluster and leather upholstery. Though it does get features like frameless doors, electric tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 9-speaker surround sound system and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Assembled at BMW’s plant in Chennai, the BMW 320d Gran Turismo Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine developing 190PS of maximum power and 400Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims the 320d GT can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.7 seconds, and in ideal conditions returns a mileage of 21.76kmpl. The 330i GT M Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, you can check out our review of the car here.

The new Sport variant should make the 3 GT more accessible for aspiring BMW owners who love the driving and handling characteristics of the 3 Series sedan but are not happy with the cramped interior space, especially at the rear. The 3 GT’s notchback-like design, 110mm longer wheelbase, 191mm longer overall length and 79mm taller overall height frees up a lot of interior space.

While the BMW 320d GT Sport has no direct competition, the Volvo S60 Cross Country has similar vibes.
