The retro-style middleweight will soon get modern rider aid like its sporty siblings

Kawasaki has hinted at updating the 2024 model year Z650RS with traction control. The update would bring the retro-themed RS model on a par with the more sporty Z650 and Ninja 650, both of which got traction control in the update for 2023, as well as the Versys 650, which got traction control in 2022.

In an executive order issued by the California Air Resources Board, the prospect of the Z650RS getting the extra rider aid was underscored. Knowing what we know about Kawasaki, this update will bring with it a new colour or two along with a slight bump in the motorcycle’s sticker price too.

Furthermore, if Kawasaki wants to integrate the traction control system, it may have to update the Z650RS’ instrument cluster as well. We sincerely hope that Kawasaki is able to do so without disturbing the instrumentation's retro looks.

Currently, in India, the Z650RS costs Rs 6.92 lakh (ex-showroom), which is pretty expensive for what's on offer. With traction control and a new colour(s) expect Kawasaki to ask around Rs 20,000 more, and the updated model is likely to be launched by the end of this year.

Except for its rather beautiful, vintag-ey looks, the Z650RS is pretty bare-bones in terms of sophistication. Even its 649cc parallel twin motor is well over a decade old. Hence, as welcoming as it is, getting traction control in 2024 seems a little too less.
