A More Larger Land Rover Defender Is Coming Real Soon

The Defender 130, which is capable of seating eight occupants, is slated for a global unveil on May 31

The Land Rover Defender is all set to grow a size larger with the introduction of the new 130 variant on May 31. Essentially, this variant gets standard third-row of seats with the capability of seating eight occupants in 2-3-3 format, so you can take your entire gang on your next adventure.

But before we speak about the upcoming variant, which has just been teased, the existing Defender can be offered with a third row of seats as well. That said, space, especially for last row occupants, is on the tighter side. With the 130, spy shots suggest that the Defender has grown a size larger, especially behind the rear wheels, meaning people sitting in the last row should have decent legroom.

This has also resulted in a slight change in its overall stance, especially with the longer rear overhang. It will also get a larger glass area to make the cabin airier. Plus, it remains to be seen whether this change has affected the SUV’s departure and breakover angles when it’s being put through the paces; something we can confirm once Land Rover shares its specifications.

Another thing that still remains under wraps is the engine options. Due to its larger size, and probably more weight as well, Land Rover could limit this variant with the gustier 3-litre diesel and petrol, plug-in hybrid, and the more powerful 525PS 5-litre supercharged V8. The base 2-litre units will be limited to the 90 three-door and 110 5-door variants.

The Land Rover Defender 130 will be globally unveiled on May 31, and we expect order books for India to open soon after that, as this variant has already been listed on the website. It will lock horns with other off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
