Rejoice, Mitsubishi’s Performance-oriented Ralliart Brand Is Coming Back

The moniker that was once a mainstay of rally circuits the world over is returning after an 11-year hiatus

Mitsubishi has announced that it will be reviving the ‘Ralliart’ brand after a 11-year hiatus. Ralliart is somewhat similar to what AMG is to Mercedes-Benz. The Japanese carmaker is yet to finalise which models will sport the Ralliart brand but a snippet from its presentation reveals a L200 Ralliart pickup, which could be the first model to debut the revived brand.

Mitsubishi could also offer standalone Ralliart performance parts for vehicle modification. The latest development is being done to realise the “Mitsubishi Motors-ness” of the brand’s cars. Most of the Mitsubishis like the Lancer EVO and Cedia are known to be fun-to-drive machines and Ralliart could indeed boost their appeal.

With that being said, most Mitsubishis today are SUVs (Pajero Sport, Outlander, and more). So, it’s likely that we'll be seeing a performance-oriented SUV from the Japanese carmaker soon. In the US, Mitsubishi used to offer the Lancer Ralliart which sat between the standard model and the bonkers Lancer EVO.

Mitsubishi currently doesn’t have a model on sale in India. The Pajero Sport and Outlander were discontinued when time came for the inevitable transition to BS6 emission norms. The carmaker recently took the wraps off the latest iteration of the aforementioned SUVs, but it remains to be seen if they’ll come to India.
