Cosmetic and additional features added, no mechanical changes

2017 Volkswagen Polo GT Sport

Volkswagen India has launched a cosmetic 'Sport' kit for the Polo GT twins - these can be added to the standard car and cost an additional Rs 20,000 over and above the ex-showroom price.

The standard Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is priced at Rs 9.15 lakh (GT TSI Sport costs Rs 9.35 lakh), while the standard Polo GT TDI is priced at Rs 9.25 lakh (GT TDi Sport costs Rs 9.45 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

What does the 'Sport' kit add to the Polo GT? On the outside, the highlights include a glossy black roof wrap, 16-inch 10-spoke 'Portago' alloy wheels instead of the 'Estrada' ones, 195/55 R16 tyres, stickers along the lower edge of the doors and a new glossy black spoiler. The kit can only be added to Polo GTs with either the Flash Red or the Candy White.

Inside, the Polo GT Sport gets new leatherette seat covers with ‘GT Sport' embossed on them. The standard Polo GT is fitted with dual-tone fabric seat covers.

In terms of mechanicals, the Polo GT Sport editions are no different from the standard cars. The Polo GT TSI is powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol motor developing 105PS of maximum power and 175Nm of peak torque. The petrol motor is paired to a fast-shifting 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission with power sent to the front wheels. The Polo GT TSI has an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.21kmpl.

On the other hand, the Polo GT TDI is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TDI turbocharged diesel motor. This develops 110PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and the GT TDI has an ARAI-certified mileage of 19.91kmpl.

The launch of the Polo GT Sport comes close to launch of the Ford Figo Sport Edition earlier in April 2017.
