After previewing a prototype in November 2020, Honda has finally released the first official photo of the 2022 Civic sedan’s flagship Touring model in the USA. Further details will be out on April 28.
Thankfully, the next-gen Civic is largely similar to the prototype and the China-spec model. It has a low and sporty stance combined with strong shoulder lines. The production-spec does get minor tweaks, including new fog lamps up front and two-tone alloy wheels replacing the all-black ones. The glossy black accents on the window (as seen on the prototype) have made way for a blingy chrome finish. Overall, the sedan looks like the tenth-gen Accord’s toned-down version.
Honda has yet to showcase the 2022 Civic’s cabin, but it’s unlikely to vary significantly from the prototype, which was minimally done. Key features include a digital driver’s display, a nine-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a sunroof, and climate control knobs similar to those in the City. The carmaker has also hinted at new safety features, including multiple airbags and the Honda Sensing Suite (comprising safety and driver-assistance tech).
There’s no word on what might power the upcoming Civic, but we reckon it would be the carmaker’s VTEC Turbo range of petrol engines. The performance-focused Type R and Si trims will be retained. It could also get Honda’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain as an option.
The 2022 Civic sedan will be launched in the USA first, followed by the hatchback. However. there’s no word on whether it will make its way to India, considering the carmaker took the tenth-gen model off the shelves in December 2020. However, if it doesn, it will rekindle old rivalries with the Hyundai Elantra and the upcoming fourth-gen Skoda Octavia.
