Exclusive: BS6 Vespa And Aprilia Deliveries To Begin In April 2020. SR 150 Will Become SR 160

The SR 160 will continue to employ the same 154cc single-cylinder mill

  • BS6 Vespa and Aprilia scooters will feature fuel injection.
  • No change reported in the power or torque figures of the scooters.
  • Even the weight of the scooters remain the same.
  • Piaggio is looking to wait until the BS6 deadline kicks in to introduce BS6-compliant models of Vespa and Aprilia scooters. While the scooters will be sent out to most Piaggio dealerships by the end of next week, one can only expect deliveries of the scooter to start from 1 April, 2020.

As we had reported earlier, the BS6-compliant versions of these scooters will bear a significant price hike over their BS4 counterparts. The price difference will be around Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000 depending on the model.

Another interesting tidbit that we have come to know is that Aprilia will be changing the name of its top-spec moto scooter from SR 150 to SR 160. The change in nomenclature has nothing to do with the change in engine capacity or output.

The SR 160, as well as the 150cc Vespa models, will continue to be powered by a 154.8cc single-cylinder motor with no changes reported in the output figures. It will continue to make 10.5PS and 10.9Nm of torque. What is different in the motor is the addition of fuel-injection which should make for more precise throttle response.

The Vespas will receive a new end-can design which looks more rounder than the previous one. However, the weight of the scooter has not gone up. There are some subtle changes too, such as a different console layout, steel braided brake lines as well as larger cubby holes.
