The 2020 Skoda Superb Facelift Will Only Be Available With A BS6 Petrol Heart

The Czech carmaker has confirmed that the 1.8 TSI petrol engine will face the axe soon

  • The Superb facelift will be offered with a 2.0-litre TSI engine.
  • The new engine is expected to produce 190PS and 320Nm.
  • Changes include revised headlamps and tail lamps as well as new alloy wheels.
  • The 2020 Skoda Superb is likely to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2020.
  • It is expected to go on sale in India by mid-2020.

With just two months to go for Auto Expo 2020, Skoda has started revealing details of what we can expect from the carmaker at the country’s biggest auto show. The carmaker’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Zac Hollis, has confirmed that the 2020 Superb will come with a new 2.0-litre TSI BS6 compliant petrol engine and will be revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. He also revealed that the Superb facelift will be a petrol-only model initially.

The Superb’s current set of engines - the 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI - will not be updated to meet BS6 emission norms. The carmaker plans to offload existing stock of these BS4 engines by launching a couple of limited edition versions of the Superb.

The 2.0-litre TSI engine is offered in two states of tune - 190PS/320Nm and 272PS/350Nm - in various international markets. The India-spec model will most likely come with the 190PS tune, and we expect Skoda to offer it with a 7-speed DSG. There won’t be a Superb TDI (at least in 2020) on offer as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is planning to ditch diesel engines for the short term.

The 2020 Skoda Superb has already been spied on Indian roads and according to our sources, it will be launched in mid 2020. Styling updates include revised LED headlamps, dual tone alloy wheels and a new LED tail lamp connected by a chrome strip. The arrowhead logo at the rear has given way for ‘SKODA’ lettering as seen on the Kodiaq Scout.

Changes on the inside are minimal. However, the Superb facelift is expected to come with digital dials, a bigger 9.2-inch infotainment system and connected car technology. Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, powered front seats, sunroof, park assist as well as powered tailgate will be carried over from the current sedan.

It will also come with safety features like 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, hill-hold control, electronic stability control, electric parking brake with auto hold and driver fatigue alert system.

The Skoda Superb facelift will renew its rivalry with the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Accord hybrid. Naturally, expect the Superb to be priced at a small premium over the current car which starts from Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom India). Stay tuned to ZigWheels for further updates.
