Yamaha will be showcasing the MT-03 at the 2016 Auto Expo, which is basically the streetbike version of the current YZF-R3 sold in India. The MT-03 borrows its looks from its smaller sibling, the MT-25 which is available in the international market. Streetbikes follow a design philosophy of a muscular fuel tank, upright yet comfortable seating position with wide handle-bars, diminutive tail lamp, and an exposed engine which have been well incorporated in the MT-03. Yamaha has skipped the clip-on handle bars and used a single piece handle-bar for the MT-03.

The Yamaha MT-03 borrows the same parallel-twin cylinder powerplant from the YZF-R3. The engine is capable of generating impressive 43PS of power and 29.5Nm of torque. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a slick 6-speed gearbox. The Yamaha MT-03 is equipped with disc brakes at both ends to take care of braking duties. After its showcase at the Auto Expo, Yamaha is likely to launch the MT-03 in late-2016.

The motorcycle will be assembled locally in India and is expected to carry a sticker price under Rs 3 lakh. The Yamaha MT-03 will face competition against the likes of the Kawasaki Z250, Benelli TNT 300 and the upcoming BMW G301R.
