Yamaha has updated its fun-loving little naked, the MT-03, for 2021, and here’s everything you need to know about it:

Fresh Threads

The biggest change for the new model year comes in the form of a few new colour schemes. The Ice Fluo and Midnight Black options from last year have made way for a set of darker schemes called Storm Fluo, Matte Stealth Black, and Purple Blue Metallic. The newer schemes seem to be more in line with the tagline of the MT range, ‘Dark Side of Japan’.

Motor Makeover. Not.

Unfortunately, the new colours are not only the biggest change for 2021, but also the only one. The 321cc parallel-twin motor has remained untouched, which is a bit of a surprise. Despite the MT-03 being listed on Yamaha’s EU websites, we don’t believe the bike has received a Euro 5 update. So for the moment, it seems the 2021 version has been launched only in Japan and the US.

Under The Surface

The MT-03 continues to be held together by a diamond-type frame suspended on a beefy 37mm KYB upside-down fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Stopping power comes from a 298mm/220mm disc brake combo. Dual-channel ABS is standard.

Features

To keep its appearance fresh, the MT-03 has been equipped with full-LED lighting, meaning the headlight, turn signals, and tail lamp are all of the energy-efficient LED kind. Instrumentation is also modern enough, with a digital fully digital LCD unit that displays trip information, fuel consumption data, coolant temperature, and a gear position indicator.

Price & India Plans

The 2021 Yamaha MT-03 is priced at 654,500 Japanese yen (Rs 4.42 lakh) and $4,599 (Rs 3.39 lakh) in the respective markets. Unfortunately, it seems the 321cc engine powering the MT-03 and YZF-R3 is still not Euro 5-compliant, which means it doesn’t meet BS6 emission norms either. So there is no chance of the MT-03 coming to our shores anytime soon.
