Hyundai has silently dropped the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine option from the Creta’s lineup. Now there’s no official stated reason behind the discontinuation, but fret not, as this move could make way for a bigger and more powerful powertrain option.
A bigger 159PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, from the i30 hatch sold overseas, has been confirmed for the upcoming Hyundai Verna’s new generation and the same engine would be a fitting replacement for the outgoing turbo-petrol powertrain of the Creta. This engine will be offered with the 7-speed DCT, like earlier, as well as a 6-speed manual.
Other SUVs in the segment, like the Skoda Kushaq, are already available with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit, so that further supports the narrative of Hyundai offering the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol powertrain in its SUV, post-arrival of the RDE emission norms.
For now, the Creta continues to be available with two engine options: 115PS/144Nm 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and 115PS/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit. A six-speed manual is offered as standard throughout the range, while the diesel gets the option of a six-speed torque converter. The naturally aspirated petrol powertrain, on the other hand, can be had with an iVT continuously variable (CVT) transmission.

Prices for the Hyundai Creta now juggle between Rs 10.84 lakh and Rs 19.13 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of competitors, it takes on the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun, and the Skoda Kushaq.
