The company states supply chain and semiconductor issues to be the reason for the delay

Hero Vida Electric Brand Scooter Launch Delayed To Diwali Festive Season Around October

Hero MotoCorp announced that the launch of its first electric scooter under its sub-brand Vida has been postponed yet again. This scooter was first slated to be launched in March 2022, however it was then postponed to July 2022. Hero MotoCorp has now stated that it is gearing up to launch the Vida brand during this year’s festive season, implying the scooter will likely debut around October.

The reason for this delay is due to an issue that has been creating havoc in the automotive world recently. Hero MotoCorp, in a statement mentioned that they are facing “enormous supply chain issues” and “shortage of various components, including semiconductors”.

The upcoming Hero Electric Scooter will be born out of Hero MotoCorp’s partnership with Gogoro. It will bear a minimalistic and fresh design, without taking any inspiration from the company's existing ICE scooters. Also, this e-scooter will feature split seats, to get two under seat compartments: one for the removable battery pack, and the other for storage, similar to that on Gogoro’s e-scooters. The scooter will roll on sporty alloy wheels, sprung on a telescopic fork up front, while braking will be taken care of by drum brakes at both ends.

Once launched, the Hero Electric Scooter will rival the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube Electric, Bajaj Chetak and the upcoming Simple One. However, expect an aggressive price tag for the upcoming e-scooter, approximately around the Rs 1 lakh mark or even lower.

The semiconductor shortage and supply chain disruptions have hampered many automotive giants to launch their new offerings, with the most prolific being zero Hero Electric e-scooter dispatches in April 2022, with waiting periods extending to over 60 days.

Oddly enough, despite the semiconductor shortage issues that Hero MotoCorp faces, they recently launched the Splendor Plus Xtec, which is more feature-loaded when compared to its other variants, specifically in terms of electronic features. The biggest update on this model is fully digital instrumentation that gets Bluetooth connectivity. Read all about the new Splendor here.
