We Wish This Electric Toyota Hilux Pickup Concept Becomes A Reality

The electric pickup concept was revealed on the 60th anniversary of Toyota Motor Thailand

  • Electric Toyota Hilux concept revealed in Thailand.

  • Showcased at Toyota Motor Thailand’s 60th anniversary event.

  • Is in line with the brand's carbon-neutral plans for Thailand.

  • Production-ready model could be a year away.

  • Currently, the Toyota Hilux is priced from Rs Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.

As Toyota Motor Thailand celebrated its 60th anniversary, an electric concept of the Hilux pickup truck was also revealed. The electric pickup, coined the Hilux Revo BEV Concept, was part of the ceremony that commemorated the 60th anniversary of the brand in Thailand.

The Hilux pickup is a crucial global product for Toyota. Fittingly, the electric Hilux was showcased by Akio Toyoda, CEO and President of Toyota, himself. The electric pickup comes off the back of the carmaker’s push for a carbon-neutral footprint as reiterated by the president himself who confirmed that it has been designed to support the carmaker’s push towards cleaner mobility. So, it could mean a production-ready model could be on its way sooner than later.

Details are scarce as no deets regarding its powertrain have been released. But, we do get a look at how the electric Hilux is going to look and that’s pretty similar to its ICE-powered iteration.

The showcased EV was a two-door model draped in a white hue. The overall design looks a lot more dialled down, and that’s probably down to the closed-off air inlets on the front end. The head and taillight elements are untouched, and the concept’s charging port can be found on the left front fender.

Toyota has been the forerunner when it comes to testing out multiple fuel options. The carmaker flagged off its pilot flex-fuel project in India recently and was also amongst the first to incorporate hybrid technology in the compact SUV space, while the Innova Hycross is likely to be the most affordable three-row strong-hybrid offering when it goes on sale here soon. The production-ready electric Hilux could be launched globally sometime next year.

Currently, the Hilux is offered in two trims in India, which are priced at Rs 33.99 lakh and Rs 36.80 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the only pickup offering in Toyota’s lineup and rivals the likes of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in India.
