This customised Toyota Hilux Rapid Intervention Pickup Truck was arguably the most interesting showcase of the entire Bharat Mobility expo . As the name suggests, this is a relatively compact disaster management vehicle based on the mighty Toyota Hilux pickup.

This Rapid Intervention guise is just one of the many applications possible on the Toyota Hilux, which can also be customised for the purposes of field diagnostics, cash logistics, mobile services and more. But this disaster management application has to be the coolest, most technical, and probably the most critical of the lot, considering it has the capability to genuinely save a life.
Don’t take our word for it; watch Tushar take you through the fabrications and equipment offered with this Hilux Rapid Intervention pickup:
For around Rs 70 lakh over the price of a standard Hilux, you get a completely redone pickup bed with all the essential fire fighting equipment, including a 180-litre water tank. Apart from its fire fighting capabilities, this can also double up as a rescue and medical aid vehicle.

While the fabrication of the pickup bed itself is impressive, what makes this setup even more proficient is the overall ability of this truck to reach places that other full-size emergency vehicles can’t. So in remote areas where natural disasters strike, this is the kind of vehicle that is needed for disaster management.

Considering that the Hilux itself is a very capable vehicle with a torquey 204 PS/500 Nm 2-litre diesel engine and 4x4 drivetrain, tricky terrain shouldn’t be much of an issue for it. If not, there won’t be a host of applications on offer with it in the first place. If you want one yourself, you can get in touch with Toyota. It comes under its mobility services and a proper conversion partner is used for genuine fabrication.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an unusual version of the Hilux, as a post-apocalyptic concept on steroids was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. While you can’t drive that, the standard road-going Hilux retails between Rs 30.40 lakh and Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It only has a single rival in India - the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
