Apart from the hybrid variant revealed earlier, you can now pick one with the 2.0-litre TDI or TSI powertrain

  • The Octavia RS TSI develops 245PS while the TDI engine puts out 200PS.
  • Both engines offered with 7-speed DSG, petrol offered with a manual as well.
  • It sits 15mm lower and gets larger brakes and dynamic chassis control.
  • Likely to launch along with the standard model in India when it goes on sale.

Back in March 2020, Skoda took the wraps off the Octavia RS iV, its first-ever green RS car. It came with a 1.4-litre TSI hybrid powertrain that developed a healthy 245PS. However, if electrification and downsizing isn’t your cup of tea, say hello to the conventionally powered 2020 Octavia RS, which features brute 2.0-litre TDI and TSI engine options.

That’s a total of three RS variants of the new Octavia -- a first for the venerable nameplate. The Octavia RS with the TSI engine puts out 245PS of punch, similar to the RS iV while the diesel-powered Octavia RS makes 200PS. While both are offered with the quick-shifting 7-speed DSG, you can pick up the Octavia RS TSI with a 6-speed stick shifter if you want to take matters into your own hands. Moreover, the TDI variant can be opted with an all-wheel-drive system.

Skoda is yet to reveal performance numbers. We expect it to be similar to the current Octavia RS245, which develops erm.. 245PS. It’s capable of doing a 0-100kmph run in 6.6 seconds. Push on further and it’ll max out at 250kmph! For the Octavia RS iV’s performance timings, head here.

Being a performance model, the 2020 Octavia RS is sure to get typical RS upgrades. It sits lower by 15mm and the brakes are also larger than the bog stock Octy. Dynamic chassis control adapts various parameters of the car depending on the mode selected and last but not least, a sport differential ensures power is sent to the wheel with the most amount of grip.

It’s also got the looks to match its performance. The aggressive bumpers, larger alloy wheels with low profile tyres, and the lowered ride height give it a sportier stance. The blackout elements look delicious and top the cake!

Step inside and you’ll notice the large black sports seats get a tasteful Alcantara finish. Skoda’s virtual cockpit and the touchscreen infotainment also gets an RS-specific user interface while a slick-looking three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel replaces the two-spoke unit of the standard car.

Unlike before, chances are we could see the Octavia RS hit showrooms along with the standard model when it debuts in India around late-2020 or early-2021. The only question is: which 2020 Octavia RS is slotted for India? The TSI, TDI or the RS iV?
